LEMON POPPY SEEDS CAKE ON STOVE TOP

I was craving cake but I don't have an oven, dilemma dilemma. Then I remembered I don't really need an oven if I want to bake. After the mug cake revolution, it was time to stop being conventional and start thinking outside the box. After all, our ancestors used to bake bread before these modern day ovens came to be. So I decided to make a stove top cake. What we call in Kenya "Mawe tatu cake" literally 3 stones cake. I have every step in the photos so you will be able to follow how I did it. Cake basics remain the same, only the baking part changes. I'm so happy how the cake turned out, not only was it moist and crumbly, it was delicious as heck! Now there really is no excuse when it comes to baking! Hope you enjoy this recipe and try out this "Mawe tatu" technique.

POPPY SEEDS AVOCADO TOAST

avocado-on-bread-with-poppy-seeds-nairobi-kitchen-recipe

One of my very favorite fruits is Avocado. You can literally have it with so many sweet or savoury dishes. I made Guacamole, a perfect dip that will feature more often. I was in the mood for something easy to whip up and since Avocado and Bread were available I chose to fix something with the two. To add some heat to the dish I sprinkled with Chili Flakes. It's still Poppy Seeds week so they were also included in the Avocado Bread. Ready in less than 5 minutes, this snack makes for a great on the go meal. You can even pack it for lunch as you go for work. To make it kid friendly you can skip the Chili Flakes and add Peanut Butter or Nutella.

LEMON POPPY SEEDS CREPES

It's Crepes day, who am I kidding, everyday is Crepes Day. I could eat Crepes everyday if I could. So easy to make, light and delicious. There are probably hundreds of ways to make Crepes so I am on a journey to try and make as many flavours with different toppings. Since Crepes are really thin pancakes, you can eat as many as you want without feeling guilty.Since Poppy Seeds are the ingredient of the week, I decide to incorporate them into my Crepes. Poppy Seeds add a really nutty taste and color to your crepes and also a delicious crunch! What more could you ask from Crepes? Enjoy them with toppings or drink of your choice or have them on their own.

POPPY SEEDS - SEEDS OF THE WEEK

poppy-seed-seeds-of-the-week-nairobi-kitchen-ingredients

Nuts. Who doesn't love nuts. Seeds. Who doesn't love Seeds. Yeah, it's that day of the week, a lazy Sunday. Don't mind my random rambles. Seriously now. In my quest to add more plant based nutrients to my diet, I have been discovering different kinds of Seeds that are highly nutritious and add flavour and taste to food. I will be featuring them once in a while and even including them in recipes. Today's Seed being featured is the Poppy Seeds. I must say I have never used them before. I just saw them in a Bread recipe and went to look for them. Who knew there was a whole section in the supermarket dedicated to seeds? You probably knew didn't you? Some things you only discover when you really need them.

Now Poppy Seeds will become a huge feature in my cooking from now on.Most seeds you can eat them raw, dry roast them or soak them and use in your cooking. Like nuts, Seeds are highly nutritious and have plenty of benefits for the body. Poppy Seeds are awesome in cooking especially baking as they not only add flavour to the dish, but also add a lovely pattern to your food. It's just exciting when you bite into a pastry and see those lovely grains of Poppy Seeds then taste the crunch in them. This week the Poppy Seed will be the 'ingredient of the week' where I will feature it in my recipes for the week. This is going to be a fun week! Can't wait!
