MY FAVOURITE CHAPATI RECIPES

Chapati is also spelled as chapatti, chappati, chapathi, or chappathi, also known as roti, safati, shabaati, phulka and (in the Maldives) roshi.  Chapatis are made of whole-wheat flour known as atta, mixed into dough with water, edible oil and optional salt in a mixing utensil called a parat, and is cooked on a tava (flat skillet). Chapati dough is typically prepared with flour, salt and water, kneaded with the knuckles of the hand made into a fist and left to proof for at least 10 or 15 minutes to an hour for the gluten in the dough to develop. After proofing, the dough becomes softer and more pliable. Small portions of the dough are pinched off and formed into round balls that are pressed between the two palms to form discs which are then dipped into flour and rolled out on a circular rolling board (a chakla), using a rolling pin known as a velan or belan, into a flat disc. The rolled-out dough is then thrown on the preheated dry tava and cooked on both sides.

YOUR TOP TEN RECIPES OF 2017

Hey Lovelies. So 2017 came and went and now we are already in 2018. There is never a new year post that does not have the top posts or recipes for the last year. So I have compiled my Top 10 Recipes for 2017 based on the number of views that the recipes got. It has been a great year and I am happy that I made the choice to start a food blog. I always had that fear of what will I post? Will people respond to my recipes? Will I enjoy it? But then I decided to start anyway and I have had so much fun doing it. My love for cooking kept growing and I started realizing that the only way to deal with fear is to face that which you fear. I have enjoyed every bit of it and look forward to many more creative fun times in the kitchen. The best part is the feedback that I get from you readers. I loved it when one of my followers cooked one of my recipes and shared the picture with her version of the recipe. It was fun and absolutely fulfilling to see that. Thanks guys for your support, and looking forward to many more responses, questions and recipe replications. So guys, What was your favorite recipe? What would you like for me to include in the blog? Let me know in the comments section... So here are your top 10 recipes for 2017. See if yours made it to the list, if not what is your favorite?

BASIC CREPES RECIPE

I love Crepes, that is a known fact and I used to think that making them was hard and took too long. But the moment I made my first crepes, I have been having fun with these sweet french street food that are famous around the world. So far I have only made sweet crepes but in the coming days, I will be making more savory crepes. So today I thought I would share with you a basic crepes recipe that can be your go to crepe recipe. From there you can add any spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables, drinks like wine or beer and even use different kinds of flours. Crepes are made for everyone, whether you are Vegan, a vegeterian, on a paleo diet or you do not have any dietry needs. There are gluten free crepes, flourless crepes and even 2 ingredient crepes. So you see how much option you have when making crepes! Simple tricks for making crepes include not over beating the batter, a few lumps are okay. If you want a really smooth batter you can use a blender or hand mixer to mix the ingredients. For a finer crepe batter, you can pass the batter through a sieve for that perfectly smooth texture. To get extra crispy crepes make sure the batter is smooth but really runny. Do not put too much batter on the skillet or pan so that the batter can spread thinly around the pan. An important tip while making crepes is to use a non stick pan. This is because crepes are so thin and will tend to stick and you definitely do not want that! Use a rubber spatula if you can since it is thin and will help you smoothly slide it under the crepe when flipping it. Other than that, making crepes is fun and you get to enjoy the fruits of your hard - or not - labour! Here's my basic crepe recipe

WELCOME TO NAIROBI KITCHEN + WATERMELON LOOKALIKE BREAD

hELLO fOoD NeRdS!
Welcome to my li'l kitchen where I have fun preparing food from home. Nothing says welcome than a hot homemade food prepared with lotsa love and care. Nothing makes me happier than preparing a meal where I can share with friends and family. I love when I can make something out of crazy, simple and even seemingly complicated ingredients. Cooking is kind of like my therapy, it gets me excited and looking forward to doing something different and special each day. So welcome to my nerdy food kitchen and lets enjoy cooking and discovering together. Growing up I always loved watching mom cook. Food just fascinated me and I loved the way ingredients were combined to bring something delicious. I couldn't wait to grow up and also cook since the kitchen was out of bounds for my little hands. I guess I was the kid who didn't mind being sent for errands for foodstuff if it meant that I would stay in the kitchen as mom or anyone else was cooking. As I got older cooking just made sense and it came so easy for me. I hoped for the day I would have my own kitchen where I could experiment with recipes. Still waiting for my own kitchen but I'm glad I am old enough to be left in the kitchen alone ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜†. Cooking is just amazing! So welcome to this little "kitchen" space of mine and let us discover food, recipes and more! Be a Kitchen Nerd with me๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜™๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜œ.
