CHOCOLATE BURFI


Love chocolate? Love Indian sweets? Well look no further then than these delicious chocolate burfi. There are so many types of burfi/ barfi that include, Kesri pedha: saffron, flattened yellow round. Kaju barfi or kaju katli: cashew, light tan diamond. Pista barfi: pistachio, forest green diamond. Cham cham: pink and white, shaped like sushi rice balls. Doodh peda: kewra oil and pistachio, flattened dark tan round. Badam pak: rose water and almond, brown diamond. Walnut barfi. Barfi fon or barfifon: fig, pink and yellow colored. Gajar barfi: carrot, square and orange colored. Coconut barfi: coconut, sugar, and milk, square and yellow colored. Sing barfi: peanuts, square and brown colored. Besan barfi: gram flour light yellow diamond and Dodha burfi: peanut. So far I have made condensed milk coconut burfi that was too delicious!
INGREDIENTS


11/2 Cups Milk Powder
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons milk
4 tablespoons unsalted butter

METHOD
In a non stick pan add butter and milk


Let butter melt in the milk


Mix until well combined


Add milk powder


Add cocoa powder


Stir the mixture well


Keep mixing on low heat until the mixture is well incorporated


Add icing sugar


Add the 2 tablespoons milk


The mixture will be wet at this point


Keep cooking until the mixture thickens and starts to come slide the sides of the pan


Take off the heat and on a greased plate use spoon dipped in ghee to shape into a square


Sprinkle topping of your choice, I used desiccated coconut


Refrigerate the coconut burfi for several hours to set. Once hardened, use sharp knife to cut into your desired shape


Delicious Indian sweet ready to be served

You can serve the chocolate burfi as a snack, during celebrations or even as an after school snack for the kids


Take to the office for that midday snack that is somewhat healthy


Barfi is often served at Diwali, the celebration of the Hindu festival of lights. The traditional Hindu cuisine is an important part of these annual festivities, along with firework displays and specially crafted decorative lamps.


Barfis are usually coated with a thin layer of edible metallic leaf known as vark. You can even layer different colored of flavored burfi before serving

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 Cups Milk Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 3/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup + 2 Tablespoon Milk
  • 4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
Cooking Directions
