Nothing I love more than the smell of freshly cooked french toast. It is literally almost intoxicating and tempting that you can ever resist. Today's french toast recipe is not your everyday average kinda french toast. It is rich, decadent, fragrant, spicy, sweet, yet crunchy. Forgive my over excitement, it must be the sugar rush I had when I devoured this breakfast all time favorite meal. Dessert or breakfast? It is really hard to tell when this french toast has all the elements or a rich expensive dessert. For a recipe that is easy, insanely utterly delicious, and
takes only 15 minutes, I do not see why this should not be a daily any time of
day bite. That is if you do not mind a sugar overload early in the morning.
Which I cannot complain about, I do love my sugar morning high.
INGREDIENTS
2 Apples, peeled and sliced
¾ Cup Brown Sugar
4 Tablespoons Butter
¼ Teaspoon Vanilla Essence
½ Teaspoon Cinnamon
6 Slices Whole Wheat Bread
2 Eggs
½ Cup Milk
Powdered Sugar to sprinkle
METHOD
Add apples, sugar and butter in non stick pan
Heat on medium high heat and mix the ingredients until well combined
Allow sugar to melt and stir occasionally until the butter has melted and the sugar dissolved
Add cinnamon
You can be as generous as you want with the cinnamon to get that sweet spicy flavor in your french toast
Mix the cinnamon well with the butter apple mixture
How delicious does those cinnamon coated apples look?
Reduce heat to simmer and slowly cook for another 6-8 minutes longer. Remove from
heat and allow to cool slightly and thicken while you prepare toast.
Add mil, eggs and cinnamon in a bowl or deep plate
Whisk the mixture to combine well
Dip one slice of bread into the milk egg mixture, allow to soak well
Lift the slice of bread and allow excess egg mixture to drip off
Coat the second side as well
Lay the toast on a buttered non stick pan and allow to cook for a few minutes until bottom starts to brown
Flip and cook the second side until golden as well
Repeat the cooking for all the other whole wheat toasts
Generously top toasts with apple-cinnamon mixture
Let all that gooey sweet apple cinnamon mixture drip from the sides slowly seeping into the toast
This is a rich decadent dessert or breakfast for those mornings you want a treat and feel like spoiling yourself
The apples are still crunchy so you get that soft buttery yet crunchy texture when you bite into them
You know me, I can never resist a close up to show you the best parts of this delicious french toast!
